Type 2 Survey

Please see below case studies and testimonials from clients for whom we've carried out Type 2 Surveys.

Grafham Grange School

Grafham Grange School provides residential education for children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. PVsurveys were commissioned to undertake a Type 2 survey covering the main school, out buildings and residential blocks at Grafham Grange School.

PVsurveys, sensitive to the nature of asbestos management within a child-occupied teaching environment, offered the client as much flexibility as needed in terms of working hours. A bespoke service was very much necessary due to the added element of residency on site - traditional methods of asbestos management also required a careful approach to ensure that the safety of staff and pupils was not compromised during or after the survey and the subsequent removal works.

Having identified asbestos containing materials in various locations within the school, PVsurveys was to project manage a programme in preparation of the removal of all components discovered. This entailed the preparation of a tender document to issue to potential contractors, analysis of the responses, and management of the end-to-end process following award of the contract. Again, strict timetables had to be adhered to as the work needed to be done quickly and safely.

Having completed this operation our next task was to install our unique software programme for the school so that the few components which were left in-situ can be managed easily in accordance with the CAW 2006 legislation.  This allows the printing of permits to work, reminders of impending re-visit checks, and enables printed copies of specific area analysis for maintenance and contracting staff to ensure all parties are aware of any potential issues.

Our programme of management continues with the addition of a sister School being added to the programme.

"The willingness of PVsurveys to work flexibly to meet our specific needs has been greatly appreciated. The work has been thorough with excellent feedback at each stage and a professional final report."

At Home Nationwide Limited

"I was requested to carry out an immediate asbestos survey of our full residential stock consisting of around 2,200 units widely dispersed across England and Scotland. Due to the business decision involved and timeframe constraints it was critical that a comprehensive, very professionally managed survey be carried out. PVsurveys were instructed after a ‘beauty parade’ and delivered an all singing and dancing report with all information requested.

In addition, site managers, with almost no exception made special mention of the polite, friendly and highly professional manner in which this company conducts its business. For once, it’s been a pleasure sitting back and signing a six figure authorisation to pay for such a service and that the ongoing management of asbestos will be continued by PVsurveys."

Court Lodge Farm

PVsurveys were invited to complete a Type 2 survey at Court Lodge Farm. The site comprised of sublet workshops, domestic dwellings, offices and general farm areas! The client was considering refurbishment improvements and needed an updated asbestos management plan before reviewing their options.

Having visited the site, and arranged a plan of works convenient to the various tenants, PVsurveys were able to survey a large and complicated site in an efficient and timely manner.

Asbestos was confirmed as present in large quantities in several locations across the site; Chrysotile (white asbestos) was identified in guttering and downpipes and Crocidolite in roofing sheets. With the PVsurveys Asbestos Management Report, the client was provided with the necessary information that would require careful compliance planning before any future refurbishment works.

Croydon College

PVsurveys have been working with Croydon College for a number of years, having initially been invited to carry out a full Type 2 Survey of the campus site in College Road, Croydon.  The initial survey was carried out over several weekends due to the busy activities in the college and upon completion our reports were uploaded to our software system and installed at the college.

Working closely with the college Health & Safety team and the maintenance departments, the software has become an integral part of their process to ensure awareness and safety when working in areas known to have Asbestos components.

More recently, the college has started an ambitious expansion program and specific Type 3 intrusive surveys were required prior to works commencing. On each occasion the surveys were completed and uploaded to the software system to ensure compliance with all areas of the legislation and building control requirements. Where components needed to be removed, PVsurveys acted as consultants to the college.  Using our intimate knowledge of the college we were responsible for issuing and collating quotations from a number of contractors, managing dates, access and terms of the projects with a final report handed to the college upon completion.

Annual re-inspections have been completed and noted in the software, providing a full and current register - an integral part of the general Asbestos Management Plan.

West London Health Estates and Facilities Management

West London Health Estates and Facilities Management are responsible for the maintenance of over 40 PCT s (Primary Care Trusts) in Hammersmith, Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow.

PVsurveys were awarded the contract to carry out Type 2 surveys on all sites and to provide a plan for the future management of asbestos on these sites.

The surveys were completed using our own software which was subsequently purchased by West London.

PVsurveys now manage all asbestos issues on the sites undertaking re-inspections and type 3 surveys when required.

“PVsurveys completed the project on time and to a tight schedule. The Software solution has enabled a complex problem to be easily managed and kept up to date”

Gary Ladhams, West London’s project Manager for asbestos.

The Old Fire Station (Council Art Gallery)

Henley Town Council invited PVsurveys to carry out a Type 2 survey for a local art gallery in world renowned Henley-on-Thames.

Working closely with staff on site, PVsurveys ensured there were minimal disruption to the activities of staff members and patrons viewing the galleries.

The Type 2 survey highlighted the presence of asbestos within close proximity to the entrance area of the gallery and recommendations were made to remove the asbestos.
